"You're a combat aviator, start acting like one."

Occasionally, the icy fingers of Tragedy
extend their boney, grasping reach
far too close to home for comfort

Yet even tragedy serves a purpose

if only to remind us to be more vigilant,
to be more grateful,
to hold our families closer,
to protect our children better,
to nourish fragile bonds,
to try oftener to touch that distant heart,

to monitor and watch more carefully,
and seek eyes and understanding
beyond our mortal ones

to help us try to comprehend more fully
the truer purpose,
the better path,
to establish for ourselves
the good from the evil

to strengthen our desire
to come out on the winning side
or die trying

[Title quote is from "Behind Enemy Lines"]
